What to Expect on Your First Visit

Your first visit at our office typically takes anywhere between 30 minutes to an hour, depending on your condition, medical history, type of service, and how quickly you fill out your intake paperwork!  To save time on your initial visit, please fill out your intake form prior to your initial visit.  Whether you're coming for Chiropractic, Acupuncture, or Massage, a link to your online intake form will be emailed to you upon scheduling your appointment.

To ensure that you can take advantage of your full scheduled appointment time on your first visit, please arrive approximately 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time so that we can get you to your room as quickly as possible.  Please be sure to also bring the following items to your appointment:

1.  Picture ID

2. Insurance card (this can also be emailed to nhwchiro@gmail.com)

3. Any relevant medical records including x-rays or MRIs, if you have them

You will be greeted by our friendly staff, and asked to present a picture ID and your insurance card, if you have insurance.  Once your intake paperwork has been completed, you will be taken to one of our rooms, pictured on the right (from top to bottom: Acupuncture treatment room, massage suite, chiropractic adjustment and exam room) and prepared for your visit with your care provider.

For Chiropractic Visits:

Once seated in the room, you will be shown a 4-minute introductory video to introduce you to our office and give you a brief introduction to chiropractic.  Immediately after the video, Dr. Fleming will enter the room and begin your consultation and examination.  You can expect your doctor to go over your medical history and discuss the reason for your visit, as well as your current health goals.  Dr. Fleming will discuss your concerns and you will be given several opportunities to have any questions or concerns answered and addressed.  Dr. Fleming will then perform a thorough physical exam to investigate the cause of your symptoms.  The exam will have many of the same components as a typical visit to your medical doctor, with a few differences.   The doctor will use her hands to examine your spine and the overlying tissues to evaluate for any joint or soft tissue abnormalities.  This will help her arrive at a diagnosis and select appropriate treatment options.  Once your the evaluation portion of your visit has concluded, Dr. Fleming will present you with a report of findings, discuss your condition with you and explain your treatment recommendations and expected outcomes. Depending on your condition, your treatment recommendations may include one or more of the following: chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue therapies, customized exercise prescriptions, nutritional supplements or referrals for imaging or to other providers.   You will be given a personal folder to take home, containing information on your treatment plan and your condition.  You are encouraged to ask questions at any time during this process and we are more than happy to provide you with more literature or research evidence on various topics in health at your request!  If it is deemed safe to do so, your first visit will also include your first treatment. To learn more about acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine, please visit the "Services" tab at the top of the page.

For Acupuncture Visits:

Once seated in the room, Dr. Safaite will review your intake paperwork and enter the room.  She will discuss the reason for your visit and conduct an extremely thorough evaluation.  You can expect to spend about an hour with the doctor as she conducts a full review of systems to arrive at your diagnosis and construct a customized and personalized treatment plan.  Dr. Safaite will give you plenty of opportunities to ask questions and ensure that each of your concerns are heard and addressed.  Your first one-hour visit will consist of an evaluation only.  Your next visit will be scheduled to set up your first acupuncture treatment visit.  Treatment recommendations may include one or more of the following: acupuncture with or without electrical stimulation, herbal supplements, cupping, and soft tissue therapy.  Lab tests or imaging studies may be ordered if deemed medically necessary.

For Massage Therapy Visits:

Once your intake paperwork has been completed, Emily will bring you back to the massage room.  She will confirm your massage election for that visit and give you an opportunity to dress down to your comfort level and get comfortable on the massage table.  Emily will knock prior to re-entry and begin your massage.  The pressure and attention of your massage is fully customizable so let Emily know if you'd like more focus on a particular area or if there is a region you would like to avoid having massaged.
